What happened next !

I left Ludford Street school at the age of 16, I joined Rolls-Royce Motors to complete an apprenticeship.

I hated being in a factory environment, although I will admit that the work was easy enough and the pay wasn't bad.

So I spread my wings and spent the next three years working at F.W. Lowe repairing cars that had been in accidents. The problem here was a bit of a reversal, the job was good but the pay was crap. And so it was that I went to work for 'Aunty Betty'. For those that don't know, that's a fond services nickname for the Queen.

Yep, I joined the RAF and at about that time, I married a local girl called Linda Barnes. We were married for about 12 years and have onen son, Richard. You can read more about Rich later on by using the links.

After completing my time in the armed services Linda and myself got divorced and I decided to give Rolls-Royce another go.

After a several years it was clear that I still wasn't happy at Royces so I moved into IT. I basically took a 3 month contract as a support engineer. I knew that it was a big gamble but looking back, it paid off very nicely.

Once working in the IT sector, I quickly discovered that :-

1. RR pay wasn't that good at all and other companies would invest in training to promote your knowledge and skills.

2. Most of us could probably do far more than we are currently doing, if we just took the chance.

After about 15 years of working in IT, something had changed inside of me. I guess that having paid my mortgage off I knew that I didn't need to earn big bucks, just enough to be happy. So as long as my bills get paid and I don't need to worry.

And so I gave up working in the IT sector and project management and to be honest, I will miss it and I might occassionally miss the large salaries, but now I get my kicks doing other things.
